Old Fife Railways

Hi there, new member, I came across the ruins an old station whilst out walking in some woods today just off the Standing Stone Road on the left hand side between Kirkcaldy and Leven. I think it was West Weymess? Can anyone confirm? and does anyone know any sites i can find pics of old stations in Fife?

Any help/info much appreciated

Looking back to 1922 in the Bradshaws timetable there was a line from Thornton to Methil that had stations at West Wemyss [1 mile from Thornton], Wemyss Castle [2.75 miles], Buckhaven [4 miles] and Methil [5.25 miles]. From that I guess that where that line would cross Standing Stane Road would be about a mile from Thornton so it could very well be that the station you mentioned is in fact West Wemyss.

Thanks very much! It must be then, I would ask at work but if anyone knew i liked railways as well as working on them i would be the joke of the depot! I don't look the type so i have got away with not being noticed for it so far. My job is great pmsl, if only they all knew!

Hey Loco, I'm from Fife as well, and I can recommend a book to you, Fife's Lost Railways. If you go into Waterstones in Kirkcaldy, they should have it, or be able to order it for you. In addition, try www.railscot.co.uk where there are maps of lines, even closed lines. If you want to chat on MSN loco, then my e-mail is on my profile!

If you're ok with moving pictures, search on youtube for "fife railways" A few good vids from the mid 20th century - you might want to turn down the sound though.

Is anyone a member of kfrps on here? i keep meaning to join but its just getting round to it with working nites. I there any decent places in scotland to see old diesel loco's?

Are you sure? I thought that they'd be cine films transferred to computer and encoded using the "Moving Pictures Experts Group" or "MPEG" compression systems?
