Whatever happened to the proposed year round services to Okehampton. The Sunday rover service still operates on Summer Sundays. However there seems to be no word on the proposal for NR to serve the station year round. FGW stated as far back as i think 2008 that they were looking at reinstating Exeter to Okehampton services. But the proposal seems to have died down in recent years.

Is it fair to suggest such proposals are now dead in the water, and forgotten long ago? And with First probably losing the Franchise after 2013, they may leave it to the next operator.

Devon & Cornwall railways did state they wanted to run an open acess service between Okehampton & Exeter Central using a class 31, MK2 and DBSO .

They have gained their freight operators licence but there has been no news on them getting their passenger licence.

It is to be hoped that the service is made daily and possibly more than once a day - it would help in the complete re-instatement of the line through Tavistock to Plymouth as an alternative to the Newton Abbott run.

However the town of Okehampton has taken a severe beating during the last 2 years and I'd wonder if a service to Exeter on a daily basis would be worthwhile economically!

I cant see that happening now, the enthusiasm DCR/BARS may have initially had about commercial passenger services seems to have passed with the dropping of the commuter service on the Weardale - its just not economic.
