OHLE return wire coils?

Any idea what these are?

they're littered on the return wires of the West Anglia mainline!

there's also these baubles near them:

and that thing to the left looks like a dreamcatcher

The baubles are probably anti avian devices. Birds plus live ole equipment don't always mix and can result in ole failure.

Your 'dreamcatchers' are often seen where 'public' 11/33/132kV OHLs cross rivers etc.
My guess is that they're so anglers/operators of aerial equipment, etc might still see the presence of OHLs in poor visibility.

does the railway OHLE cross a road/river/etc at this location?

birds only an issue where there are 2 conductors at different potentials within a wingspan, eg at insulators separating 25kV conductor & earth support.

There are many 'dreamcatchers' around Ely North Junction. I always thught they were a bird deterant with there being so many water birds in the area.

The dream catchers are there so that ducks swans and other large birds can see the wires you fin them on ht power lines near lakes and rivers

I guess the coils are small 'reactors' of some sort, basically dampers to attenuate any travelling waves [of the voltage kind] and stop ringing [of the voltage kind]. When a travelling wave hits a termination it kind of gets reflected back up the wire and starts to double the voltage waveform. Before you can even say Michael Faraday, you have a voltage surge.
Usually happens on very long HV wires over 100kM's but may have some funny instances of voltage regulation with trains and dynamic braking etc if they have such things on these tracks....?
