I’ve noticed the 17.38 Waverley to Inverness train is regularly cancelled beyond Perth ... is there a common reason for this ??

If any delay is picked up, it's only 20 minutes ahead of the Glasgow to Inverness service. That's very little gap on the Highland Main Line. They can get coupled up and run through as one, or passengers can get switched to the later one without too much disruption.

1H17 is now booked an HST so the previous fall back move to cancel it and tie the unit up with 1H53 1809 Glasgow Queen Street - Inverness in the event of 1S16 1200 London Kings Cross - Inverness running between 29 and 60 minutes late, which used to appear in the Contingency Plan, is not possible. Tonight 1H17 was cancelled as the booked conductor had not yet been trained to work HSTs and no other conductor was available.
