Offered and accepted rail jobs

I see from all the threads about jobs, testing, and long waits that there are a lot of forum members "in the process" of attempting to find work in the rail industry.

I was just wondering how many of you who have posted in the past about waiting to hear have actually finally landed employment.

It would be nice to hear some success stories.
Might also cheer up some who are still anxiously waiting.
Maybe a thread under "Railway Jobs & Careers" called "Success Stories".

I was told on Christmas Eve '07 about my current job after a wait of about 5 months. It was my second attempt at applying for a position, the first being back in Feb'04!

but of course! unfortunately due a problem with the refurbishment and the frequency of stops, I can't do my commercial duties on these units yet..

basically with a stop every 2-5 mins you cant really get through the train. and the doors at the moment can only be operated from the rear cab. Once they fix the "conductors pod" in the centre coach we can do the doors from there as well, and would then be able to work the doors and the train properly!

Do not post on websites whilst working, else you could end up having a very short railway career.

If you work on the railways and post on here my advice would be don't give anything away about who you are and certainly don't admit to practices that you wouldn't want your boss finding out about. You may not be malicious, but I guarantee managers and other concerned staff come on here to keep an eye on what's being said.

As for this topic, I wish I could be posting here! Been through trainee driver selection and passed but line manager interview postponed indefinitely until more vacancies arise

thank you and I appreciate your concern however, I am very aware of Southern's mobiles phone policy and also the current instructions of working 313's and have even spoken to my manager about what we can do between stops and I feel that I have done nothing wrong...

Hardly, I've been mainline driving for over ten years!

The advice was offered, based on some "very strong hints" that have been dropped to guards on other operators. But as usual, enthusiasts think that they know better!

Some TOCS are starting to take a dim view of what the OP had been doing. It's common sense to warn him.

I've seen agency staff sacked for being on their phones at work, yet to see permanent staff sacked yet though... depends on their contract I guess

He's said he has spoken to his manager about what he can and cant do once safety/commercial duties are completed...

it's not like he works for a First Company where management travel the trains looking for dirt on the traincrew.

i think this is going well off topic. To end it really may just reiterate that i appreciate the friendly advice and that using my phone or even my work issued phone, does not take place during safety critical work which is drowned upon.

Crickey I know TOC's tend to be pretty strict when it comes to following the rules, but drowning their staff! Surely that's illegal these days!?
