Offence?

While in leeds earlier i noted that 158901 was pulling into platform 8 at about 13:25 and the destination display said Weymouth Quay. It changed to york when the train stopped at 8c. Now that is obviously the guard/driver messing around but would the person responsible be diceplined/sacked if management saw it?

You won't be sacked for an incorrect destination display. If it was noticed then you would be made aware of it and asked to change it, it could be the wrong code number was put into the selector (we've all done it). It never ceases to amaze me the sheer amount of places that are in the memory bank of the 158 destination display.

That's right. I once overheard a conversation between the guard and a driver who was on the cushions in the seat in fron tof me. Thye were joking about the number of codes that drivers had to use on the trains depending on the stopping patterns. Apparently the driver of our train, who was a mate of the one sittign down, had miskeyed one digit and the computer thought we were travelling the opposite way!

if you wanted to be really picky I reckon you could be prosecuted under Rail Vehicle Accessibility Rules maybe, but I seriously doubt it would ever get that far...

You could put all sorts of fun destinations on 158, my personal favourite was "mystery tour"...

I've run about with the wrong destination shown by mistake, noticed that it was wrong and waited until the train has stopped before changing it so I wasn't distracted from the actual task of driving :roll:

Wasn't Singapore, along with a host of exotic destinations, added for the opening of Manchester Airport station? I can't remember off-hand where else was added. Also, I think it only involved limited units.

I'm struggling to see the issue here. A destination blind showed the wrong destination, it was changed (presumably) to the correct destination...whats the problem?

I'm not saying that they should be sacked or told off. Also i'm aware that it may well have been a mistake but it still looked odd.

Yes it was, I think Hawaii was another far flung place that could be shown too. I can't remember which 158s were loaded with them though. Running ECS gives a chance to show some unusual destinations

If it was an offence they may well have been now if the management read your thread with the train time included - no wonder some railway staff do not like jobsworth enthusists

Certainly one of the ex-TPE 158s had this. Think it was 813?

Garden Festival was a good one. Man Utd football ground as well. Ramblers excursion gets a few double takes too.

down here on the branch lines (cornwall) the trains rarely show the right destination on the front.A few years back when FGW aquired some new trains from somewhere (either ATW or LM or Northern) they spent weeks going round cornwall showing rather all sorts of place names. Once spotted a clever driver/ TM had put "city line" on the falmouth - Truro branch display, Truro being only city in cornwall!
