Off v super off peak on Thameslink

Sorry if it's been asked before, but I can't find the difference between super and regular off peak day returns on Thameslink.

Travelling from HPD to BFR and home later in the day, what are the restrictions please?

As far as I can tell I need to leave HPD on the 0925 or later, and super off peak leaving BFR at 1857 or later. But what happens if an earlier train is delayed. Does my ticket become valid to use on that train?

The Super Off Peak Day Return (weekday version) has an afternoon/evening restriction for the return portion:

Not valid on trains timed to depart:

• London Kings Cross, London St Pancras International, Moorgate or pass through London St Pancras International after 16:29 and before 19:02 regardless of where you join or leave the service.

There are no restrictions on the return journey for the Off peak Day Return. It should also be noted that there is a separate Super Off Peak Day Return for weekends and public holidays.

No, the restriction is based on timetabled departure of the train, not actual times.

Harpenden and Blackfriars.

Effectively the only difference on weekdays between a Harpenden to London Thameslink Super Off Peak Day Return and Off Peak Day Return is that the return portion of the super off peak does not allow travel in the evening peak but the off peak does.

Note that the ticket will be issued to London Thameslink and the restrions apply to the scheduled departure time from St Pancras.
