Sorry... new to this forum. But as I don't seem to be getting any response from forum admin via the "contact us" page and emails sent to customerservice@railforums.co.uk are returned, undeliverable, can a mod or admin that happens to be looking please indicate how I turn off the blasted emails which I receive any time someone else posts on a thread where I have posted.

It's annoying to the point that I will leave the forum in short order if I can't make it stop.

Thanks.

Hover your mouse over your username at the top right hand of this page, and then click preferences on the drop-down menu. Then uncheck anywhere that says "and receive email notifications"

I have no idea why they have it on by default, it's utterly pointless and infuriating, especially if you're contributing to busy threads.

To stop getting emails about future threads you reply to:
  1. Hover over your name in the black bar at the top and then click "preferences"
  2. Uncheck all the "and receive email notifications" boxes in the "options" section
  3. Click "Save changes"
To stop getting emails about existing threads:
  1. Go to the forum home page
  2. Click "Watched threads" in the grey bar at the top of the page
  3. In the blue bar below any unread watched threads you have, click "show all watched threads"
  4. On the right hand side above the "Last message" column click the words "Manage watched threads"
  5. Click "Disable email notification"
  6. Then click "Save changes"
If there are any individual threads you do want to get email notifications for:
  1. Go to that thread.
  2. If you are already watching the thread, click "unwatch thread" in the top right, then click the red "unwatch thread" button in the dialog box.
  3. Click "watch thread" in the top right
  4. Choose the "and receive email notifications" option
  5. Click the red "watch thread" button.

Exactly what Chris states above - they're easy to turn off and you can set the default behaviour at the point of signup. :)

Of course this would best be dealt with by other means, but since an enquiry using the "contact us" page returns no response and emails to customerservice@railforums.co.uk bounce back as undeliverable, I had no option but to create a thread.

In fact I had previously unchecked all the "alert" options and clicked through the "disable all email" link from an email notification and confirmed that, but one "and receive email notifications" still remained unchecked. I now have all the "and receive email ..." options unchecked, as instructed.

The thing is... even having done the unchecking as instructed, I am still receiving email notifications.

I'm not impressed. To avoid the blasted emails I won't be posting anything further.

Certainly, that is a work around for the email notifications.

But I'm unimpressed that the neither the "contact us" nor email options seem to be available should there ever be an issue which I want dealt with privately, so I won't be posting further for that reason alone.

You can always send PMs to any online staff members...

The contact us link at the bottom of the forum is working. I've just tried it. customerservice@railforums.co.uk is not an active address any more. You message you sent earlier today via the contact form was received.

The "Alert Preferences" only control alerts that you see on the forum (the red indicator on the top right of every page). To unsubscribe from Email notifications you need to select the "Preferences tab" and unselect "and receive email notifications of replies." This will only act for future threads, those which you already receive notifications for can be unsubscribed most easily by clicking the appropriate link at the bottom of the email.

There is only one record of you submitting a form via the contact us page, less than three hours before you posted this thread. We do not receive initial contact by any Email addresses.

You can just block them from your email inbox, or automatically send to spam.
I would not advise this, as in order to reduce the number of 'bounced' emails, the forum software will automatically deactivate an account which has reached a certain number of blocked emails over a certain time span. Further, in the event you say need a password reset or something else urgent it may not be delivered.
