Depends on your ticket (origin/destination/ticket type) - what do you have?

TfL have not lifted their peak restrictions over Christmas.
A travelcard still needs to be peak if arriving in London during TfL peak period.

Most operators apply peak time restrictions on 'commute to work' tickets on the working days between Christmas and New Year and always have.

Restrictions are lifted on *some* long-distance tickets eg 'off-peak returns' by some 'intercity' operators, again a legacy of British Rail policy.

The only other exception that sometimes applies is where there is significant engineering work taking place.

Work on the basis that peak restrictions apply on Wednesday 28 - Friday 30 December.

Govia Thameslink Railway have not relaxed peak restrictions on 28th, 29th or 30th December. In previous years they have relaxed the evening restrictions between Christmas and New Year. More passenger focussed operators, including Virgin Trains, have relaxed their restrictions. If you asked someone at Kings Cross I could understand why there might have been confusion.

If you have a Sandy to London Zones 1-6 Off Peak Day Travelcard it is valid on all rail services in Zones 1-6 after 0930. The evening restrictions apply to the return journey from the boundary of zone 6 to Sandy.

On GTR Great Northern Super Off Peak tickets to London are only available for travel on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. The fact that a Saturday timetable (with a few extras in the peak) will be operating on the normal working days between Christmas and Bank Holidays doesn't mean that Super Off Peak tickets will be valid.

The real scandal is GTR not removing the evening peak restrictions. For the next three days we have a farcical situation with fares between Peterborough and London where the Off Peak Day Return Any Permitted can be used on ANY train yet the Off Peak Day Return Great Northern Only retains it's morning and evening peak restrictions.

Consider the 0726 Great Northern service from Peterborough to Kings Cross on 28th December:

The Any Permitted Off Peak Day Return at £33.30 is valid
The Great Northern Only Off Peak Day Return at £27.70 is not valid

Passengers making a day return from Huntingdon, St Neots, Sandy or Biggleswade to Kings Cross at 'peak' times tomorrow would be better off buying an Off Peak Day Return from Peterborough and starting/finishing short.

Then again, would we expect anything different from GTR....

Its about time that off-peak restrictions were lifted for all operators during the holiday period - it seems ridiculous for example that peak fares are applied for local journeys in London this week when a Saturday service is being run complete with closures and bustitutions on some lines.

I spoke to the conductor on my EMT train this morning. After going away to check he said all restrictions were lifted on EMT this week

People who don't normally travel by train would be entitled to ask: if you're operating a Saturday timetable, how can you, in all fairness, apply Mon-Fri ticket restrictions?

They (TOCs) want to have their cake and eat it... NOT provide a Mon-Fri service, but apply Mon-Fri fares, including the Network Railcard £13 minimum fare rule

Considering the amount of (planned and unplanned) disruption on both VTWC and GWR these past two days (and as occurs every Christmas), it is sensible of them to have lifted all peak restrictions! More generally I agree with the point that any TOC operating a Saturday or Sunday service should not be charging weekday fares.
