Off Peak Travel

Good evening,

I intend to travel to London Euston from Warrington Bank Quay on Friday 6th September.

I am proposing to catch the 8.25 train from Warrington ,and return on the 18.30 train from Euston.

The ticket cost is quoted at £71.90 ,Off Peak Open Return - with a senior rail card.

I have in mind though that I can’t travel using an Off Peak ticket before 9.30am and not before 7pm for the return.

Advice appreciated!

Off Peak travel is not a blanket restriction. There are many journeys which do have a 9.30am morning restriction, but also many that are based on other times.

In the case of travelling into Euston from Warrington on an off-peak return, the restrictions are:

Not valid on trains timed to arrive:
London Euston before 11:30 (Restrictions do not apply on Fridays)

Not valid on trains timed to depart:
London Euston after 04:29 and before 09:26 or after 15:00 and before 18:45 (Restrictions do not apply on Fridays)

Note that the easement to travel on Fridays at any time is specific to Euston.

It seems then I can travel at my planned times.

It is surprising that restrictions do not apply on Fridays - I would assume this would be their busiest day?

Possibly reflects a reduction in business travel on Fridays. IIRC, the change which effectively allowed off peak travel on any Avanti train to/from London Euston on Friday mornings was introduced late 2020, after COVID.
