Hi there

I have booked an open return from Bolton to Barrow. I have reserved a seat for the outward leg, but could possibly catch an earlier train. Would my ticket still be valid on any train on Saturday?

If you hold an Anytime or Off-Peak ticket you can travel on any train on a Saturday, but you will not be guaranteed a seat on any service other than the one you booked to travel on.

If it's an Anytime Return, Off-peak Return, or Off-peak Day Return, then yes. Strictly speaking, there's no longer any such ticket as an "Open Return".

Indeed. The ticket type "Open Return" (SOR/FOR) became Anytime Return, to avoid confusion after booking engines used the term "open return" to have a rather different meaning!

This ticket is an Off Peak Return, formerly "Saver Return" (SVR)

But it makes no difference on a Saturday, of course.
