Off-peak return 'valid until',but seat res. date has passed.

Think I've made a mistake on my return leg of an Off Peak Return, and will maybe need to buy another ticket...

Got an Off-Peak Return from London to Glasgow. I've travelled up OK on the first leg, though the return ticket had a seat reservation Valid on the 1544 on 16th May from Glasgow - Euston. That has passed. I travel up and down quite a lot, and usually get an Open Return, hence I didn't bother to check the return ticket until it was too late(!). Daft, I know.

The other part of the ticket has a 'Valid Until 13-June-10' date on it. Does that mean that I can still use the ticket to travel the return leg from Glasgow-Euston at an off-peak time? E.g. on the 5.40am Glasgow Central to Euston tomorrow (17th)?

Or should I buy another single before tomorrow ($107)?

Yep thats fine. Off-Peak is valid on all trains after the 0540, including the 0540. So take your pick!

I'm sure Virgin would love you to buy a new ticket! Off Peak returns are valid for a month though,subject to the time restrictions if there are any, so you would just be wasting your ticket! It's interesting that a lot of people seem to think nowadays that if they don;t travel on their reserved service their ticket is no longer valid. I wonder how many actually do buy another ticket unnecessarily?

You are valid on any train scheduled to arrive at Euston at or after 10:05 (also valid on the sleepers) or Kings Cross at or after 11:17. As they are not mentioned in the restriction, I assume that as they are not mentioned in the restriction, you are unrestricted travelling to the other London Terminals at which the ticket is valid.

The term 'Open Return' used to refer to a specific ticket type, outward and return travel was valid for 1 month and it is valid on any train.

Then thetrainline used the term 'open return' (note capitalisation difference!) to refer to a ticket that was 'open' by THEIR definition, which simply meant not tied to any specific train.

Now the term open does not have a specific definition, but it is usually referred to a ticket that is valid for 1 month, usually also by any train. Your ticket is 'open' from the point of view that it is valid for 1 month but it isn't valid by any train but it is, in effect, valid by almost any train - with just the morning restrictions detailed above.
