Hi,

I was planning on buying an off peak return to Crewe as it is the same price as to Stoke, but valid via Stoke too from Southampton.

Would I then be able to alight at Kidsgrove or Alsager as that may be easier for me to get picked up from? (What would northerns view on the validity of the ticket be from Stoke to Kidsgrove?) Also it saves £6 compared to the ticket to Kidsgrove or Alsager despite the ticket to Crewe being valid through there seemingly!

The only restrictions I can see is Cross Country's 2V not valid until 09:30 and no break of journey restrictions.

Map RJ in the routeing guide is one of the valid routes, and it allows travel via Stoke to Crewe.

It's a valid route (see @jfollows' screenshot above) and so - as an Off-Peak Return permits break of journey unless barred by the restriction code, and restriction code 2V doesn't bar break of journey - you can go via Alsager and break your journey (or finish short) there.

Kidsgrove and Alsager fares are frequently undercut by Stoke or Crewe fares for longer journeys. It's quite a common phenomenon and so I'm surprised they don't just make them part of the Stoke/Crewe clusters.
