Sorry to ask a daft question. I thought I knew the answer, but just making sure.

I have a Stockport to Conisbrough off peak return, which I used at 16:30ish on Monday for the Stockport-Conisbrough journey.

Am I right in thinking that the return part of the journey does not have the off-peak restrictions? I've often used the return part of an off-peak open ticket in the past before 10am without a problem.

Will I be able to use the Conisbrough-Stockport part on Tuesday at any time?

Thanks.

The ticket is priced by TransPennine Express and this link gives the restriction.

Typically TPE-priced Off-Peak Returns allow return "by any train". Indeed this one has no time restrictions on the outbound either, just disallows Break of Journey on that leg. This is the case with many longer-distance non-InterCity Off-Peak Returns.

This can be advantageous for infrequent commuters, who can buy "in the wrong direction" and use the OUT to go home in an evening when there is no time restriction, and the RTN to go back to work another day within the next month.

For this specific ticket the restriction is this:

Code:
Restriction Code: 8A

Available as listed below on
any day.

OUTWARD TRAVEL
Valid on any train.

Break of journey is not
permitted except to change
trains at an intermediate
station or to access station
facilities.

RETURN TRAVEL
Valid on any train.

So yes, in this case, on the return portion of the ticket, you may travel at any time.

TP

Edit... Beaten to it!

Trying my hand at fares:

Restriction 8A applies - no break of journey outwards, no restrictions return.

Sorry, beaten to it x3

It depends on whether your off peak return is a Saver off peak return, or an off peak day return. The former has no restrictions, so yes, you will be able to use it to return on Tuesday at any time; the latter has no restrictions on the return portion, but as it is a day return, the return portion may only be used the next day if you have already broken the journey at an intermediate station. If this is the case, then yes, you may use the return portion to travel from that intermediate station to Stockport (but not from Conisbrough) at any time on Tuesday.

The OP makes it quite clear that s/he holds an Off-Peak (period) Return. :)

The full restriction code for using an Off-Peak Day Single/Return after the day of validity is:
Off-Peak Day Singles and
Returns, GroupSave Day
Returns: Valid for travel on
the date shown on the ticket
and until 0429 the following
day. If it is not possible to
complete the journey before
this time, travel is allowed
until 1200 the day after
travel - but no further break
of journey is allowed.
