Hello, my daughter is getting in a tiz. She has an off-peak return ticket (wih 26/30 railcar)Tunbridge Wells to Basingstoke. She travlled down on Saturday and wants to return this evning - leaving BSK around 1700. travelling via Watrloo. Are there any time restrictions. She's got it into her head that she can't travel between 1600 and 1900, but I think its OK. Are there restictions? THanks

As far as I can tell, the only restriction is on trains before 0930.
Evening restrictions apply if you use trains from Paddington or Reading, but not if travelling via Waterloo.

Thanks both. She is v stubbon and read this on the National Rail site thinking she' need a new ticket...
  • "Evening peak times apply 16:00 to 19:00, Monday to Friday, from or via a London station for journeys where pay as you go with contactless is available"

    Hopefully I can reassure her...

That line is a bit misleading or incomplete, it's true of pairs of stations where both are in the Project Oval area (and some others) but not of ALL journeys via a station where contactless is available.

I think having a ticket that says "off-peak" and then seeing that 1600-1900 is "peak" might confuse some folks. It confused my daughter...

That's not the same as:
  • "Evening peak times apply 16:00 to 19:00, Monday to Friday, from or via a London station for journeys where pay as you go with contactless is available"
because a station is not a journey. AFAIK TWC and BSK are not yet contactless.
