I’ve been looking at off peak restrictions (specifically SVR from Winchester) down to Weymouth/ Dorchester to connect with trains running on the Heart of Wessex line.

A SVR seems to have an exception to the 09:00 off peak start time allowing you to take any train that departs at or after 08:35 from weymouth which also allows connections to be made from other stations not listed on to such a train.

That’s all fine but the time restriction from Southampton is 08:50.

Can I take a train to arrive in Weymouth for 08:35 leaving from Winchester on a SVR or can I not leave Southampton Central until 08:50?

The bit from Avantix Traveller is:

Valid on any train timed to
depart at or later than the
times shown below. Off-Peak
tickets from stations not
listed are valid for
connections into these trains.

Cardiff Central 0720
Newport 0730
Severn Tunnel Junction 0745
Great Malvern 0815
Malvern Link 0820
Worcester Foregate Street 0645
Worcester Shrub Hill 0655
Ashchurch 0715
Cheltenham Spa 0715

Also I thought of a hypothetical question regarding the use of a disabled railcard and travelling with someone who is also using the discount.

Obviously the holder and friend/ career have to travel together, but what if a they were travelling from Waterloo and the friend gets of the train at Southampton Central and wants to end their journey there, whilst the holder continues down to Brockenhurst, How would the friend leave the station at Southampton and exit through the barriers if there ticket was checked not being the holder of the railcard?

At what point does a person end their journey? When getting off the train or leaving the station premises?

I was trying to simplify matters and got it wrong anyway.

The idea was to use a FOSS rover and using the off peak restrictions from Eastleigh to Tiverton Parkway to leave before 09:00 thinking that the rover was valid from 09:00 or when off peak tickets are valid.

Looking at the T&C's for the rover again it seems I imagined that.

If it had Worked I could use the 08:50 from Weymouth (I still can but need to get there) and the 06:48 from Eastleigh thus allowing me t start the Rover more than 2 hours early.

Incidentally I see SWT now have some basic information about rovers on their web site which surprises me as they would rather run out of ticket stock than acknowledge there existence.
