I don't think such a thing exists for the simple reason that it would be monstrously complex (or very inaccurate).

Validity is determined by the ticket rather than the train - if you can tell us what tickets you're interested in we can let you know, or check www.brfares.com to quickly get the restriction text for a given ticket.

That said, a colour-coded matrix of validity for London-X stations for each X and each train could be feasible... I am not volunteering though.

What is the origin, and what is the destination of the ticket (and your intended route), as this depends on what time the ticket is valid.

To all destinations?

You can look up your destination here:

http://brfares.com/

The lists are generated by ticket. I don't think anyone has yet compiled a list by train - but if that was to happen it'd need to be constantly checked for accuracy as ticket conditions can change.

In general though, it's worth remembering that if the train calls at any station prior to Reading other than Slough, then you can usually use any (super) off peak (day) ticket on that train.

Also if the origin is outside the Network Railcard Area (e.g. York), and the destination is within the Network Area (e.g. Didcot), then the ticket is valid on any train from Paddington.

As a general rule, if coming from London, Super-off-peaks can't be used to any destination between 1501 & 1900, if going to stations before Swindon off-peak / day tickets can't be used on trains which are non-stop to Reading between 16.00 and 19.20, and off-peaks can't be used on any train (excepting the above) between 16.31 & 18.30 unless going west of Swansea, in which case off peaks can be used on any train except the 18.15 (etc.).

E&OE (for the pedants).

As has been said, where are you going from & to? You need to narrow it down a bit.

It depends on the ticket. If the origin or destination (respectively) of the ticket is London, and the destination or origin is an FGW station, then what Flamingo says (probably!) applies.

However if the ticket is not to/from London, then entirely different restrictions may apply.

As an example, Reading - London Off-Peak Day Return is priced by FGW, and has afternoon restrictions between London and Reading.

Reading - Potters Bar Off Peak Day Return, OTOH is priced by First Capital Connect, and has no afternoon restrictions from London to Reading.

Reading - Shenfield Off Peak Day Return is priced by AGA, and likewise has no afternoon restrictions.

The same tickets as an Off Peak Return (valid for one month to return) are restricted as follows:

FGW - afternoon restrictions
FCC - no afternoon restrictions
AGA - (different) restrictions

And of course if you purchased say Swindon - Potters Bar, rather than Reading-Potters Bar, you would find that the Swindon ticket is priced by First Great Western, and carries their afternoon restrictions.

Even FGW are not consistent.

For example, if you bought a return ticket for travel from Bristol to Paddington, arriving Paddington after 10am and returning during the evening peak, you would be sold an Anytime Return, priced at a ludicrous £187.

However if you instead asked for a ticket to Peterborough, again arriving Paddington after 10am, and returning from Paddington during the evening peak, you would be sold an Off Peak Return priced at 'only' £100.

Despite that of course there are many reports of passengers being refused travel using such a ticket on the mistaken belief by staff at Paddington that there are such a thing as 'peak trains'. So you might find yourself refused travel despite holding a valid ticket, based on the ignorance of individual staff members.

I don't. Surely it depends on the origin, destination and ticket type on the ticket. For example, many tickets that involve crossing London are much less restrictive than this list

If you want it in a more eye pleasing format, I would be able to send you my excel document containing the info if you need.

This list only applies to tickets from "LONDON TERMINALS", to FGW destinations, and even then might have some inaccuracies. You absolutely cannot rely on such a list to determine whether or not an off-peak ticket is valid. Many, many, many times have I been at Paddington with a ticket that has no evening restrictions whatsoever, only a "not before 0930" restriction, and been denied boarding by misinformed gateline staff at Paddington.

The list is presumably for origins of London Terminals? I'm sure that's what class313 meant to say! ;)

It would not be possible to list the restrictions for alternative origins, though one thing that is very easy to remember is that if the origin is from outside the network area, and the destination is inside (e.g. York to Oxford), then there is no restriction whatsoever out of Paddington. This is known as the 'Network Area Rule'

Another thing that is fairly easy to remember (though not so well known) is that if the origin & destination are both outside (e.g. York to Penzance) then there is no restriction out of Paddington if the journey is being made on the outward leg.
