Off Peak Price Anomaly?

I was browsing on the National Rail Enquiries website for a Grand Central ticket between Hartlepool and Eaglescliffe and noticed that the Off Peak ticket is at £4.90, more than the Anytime ticket at £3.40.
I had always assumed that, generally speaking, Off Peak fares are cheaper than most other types of fares. I have a couple of questions:
If you rocked up to the tcket office and asked for a ticket from Hartlepool to Eaglescliffe would you be offered the cheaper ticket?
Are there any other anomalies like this?

I think that the offpeak ticket you mention is a return for £4.90 whilst the anytime £3.40 ticket is a single. So no obvious anomaly. See the range of fares on brfares.com for example.

The off-peak is a return, and the cheaper anytime is restricted Grand Central only.

Just had a look at the return fares and routes. The £4.90 fare is routed with Northern via Thornaby. The direct Grand Central return fare is £4.60.

That apparent anomaly appears on many searches and the Off Peak is a return - which you only see when you click on it to see the details.
