Off peak GVR

So I had a friend ask me about breaks of journey on this fare.

The general conditions for the ticket are broken down into "BVS/BVR/SVS/SVR/GVR - OFF-PEAK FSR/FSS/BFR/BFS OFF-PEAK (First Class)".

Now, obviously we can ignore all of the *S ones, and in this case can ignore all the *F* ones too, leaving us with BVR, SVR, and GVR. Notably, GVR is coded as not allowing breaks of journey but the others do, which answers the original question.

My understanding is the BVR is the old business-saver, the SVR is the old saver... but what is the GVR?

Related to all this, how does one determine which one is getting when buying online? I've rarely seen anything more than "off-peak return", but when different off-peak returns have different restrictions..! I presume there must be something different on the actual ticket to show the different restrictions, but what?

And I guess the other question in this case is "what are the odds of being able to tell which you have from the confirmation email?".

Info here (it seems it was basically a less restricted SVR, so a third level, used only on two flows).

And as an EC fare it would only ever have been available for EC-set fares, right?

So then why does it appear under the "General Conditions (for this ticket type)" for the XC-set fare, and not under the off-peak return via Peterborough (EC-set) when both are SVRs? What's the "ticket type", then?

Because it's generic information for *all* off-peak (non-Anytime walk up) tickets.

It's just the way they're linked together in the fares database, I suppose. Probably nobody in a position to change it really cares.
