Please don't use your age as a reason for not knowing something, there's no shame in not knowing!

But a Day Travelcard is valid for a return journey into London, but once you're in London it's valid all day on trains, buses and even trams inside the defined area.

An Off-Peak Day Travelcard allow customers to travel to London and enjoy unlimited travel throughout London on National Rail, London Underground, DLR, London Trams and London Bus services within Zones 1-6.

Off-Peak just limits the times you can use it on weekdays, assuming Rugby these are:

Outward Travel​
Not valid on trains timed to arrive at London Euston after 04:29 and before 10:00. Not valid on any other journeys timed to depart after 04:29 and before 08:45. Break of journey is not permitted on the outward portion except to change trains at an intermediate station or to access station facilities.

Return Travel​ Return travel from London Euston is not valid before 08:45. Return travel not valid on trains timed to arrive at London Euston after 04:29 and before 10:00. Normal break of journey rules apply to the return portion.

Notwithstanding these restrictions, you might also find it hard to use the ticket before 09:30 in the London area.

Generally speaking all stations in London are within zones 1-6.
The London rail and tube map shows you what zone a station is in, and can be found at every station in the South East

As others have said, if it's a one day travelcard, you can pretty much do what you like (trains, underground, buses, docklands light railway, croydon trams) once you're inside Greater London (there are a few exceptions, like the Heathrow Express and open top sightseeing buses) but it's only valid for one return journey from and back to your 'home' station outside London.

Some people who live just outside London get caught by this if they want to go home for their tea then go out again in the evening (or whatever) which is OK if home is inside the London zones.

Just a thought though, the options with only 1 change (change to Southern at Watford Junction) may be an easier journey as you don't go through Central London (and you don't have to use the Underground)

Also, if travelling a little bit later would work for you, there's an option of 0956 from Rugby, change at Watford Junction, arrive Clapham Junction 1135 - that is coming up at £ 45.60 return on national rail enquiries. (That's just a return between Rugby and Clapham Junction, with no travelcard element.)
