Off peak BoJ

Outward portion of an off-peak return from Crewe to Euston - I would like to go via Birmingham and break my journey for a couple of hours. Is this permitted ?

yes, assuming you are using the Off Peak Return that is Route: Any Permitted.

If your ticket is only valid on West Midland Railway and London Northwestern Railway services, then break of journey is not permitted on the outward portion.

However you will be let through the barriers to use station facilities (as a lot of the retail is outside) and there will not be someone watching you to see if you pop out to the shops for a bit.

If it's the Any Permitted ticket BoJ is permitted.
