Are there any trains built in the last twenty or thirty years that are "off lease" at the moment?

There are always Mk2/3 coaches knocking around, and old 47s etc, but anything modern not being used?

Just thinking that manufacturers don't want to build new trains without a guaranteed market, but whenever anything is built it gets used, even the "on spec" stuff like the 170s that ended up at Central Trains.

Any 158s gathering dust anywhere?

3 or 4 class 180s are stored off lease but are expected to return to service shortly.

All 158s are currently in traffic - as are all 15x series units.

As mentioned in the other thread the 322s are only on Sub-lease to ScotRail from the Greater Anglia franchise

Although obviously it depends if the incoming operators have any planned use for them but they are mentioned in the DfT tender document for the Greater Anglia Franchise, so any bid would theoretically take them into consideration.

Although staying along the same lines there are currently 9 stored 321s - 6 of which are off lease (although 3 could potentially go to FCC but 418, 419 & 420 don't have seem to have any plans)

No 67s anymore. They're all out, other than 1 (IIRC) that has been spare stripped and is now currently being reassembled for traffic.

so tell me then why 1, 4, 23, 28 and 29 are all stored then? Huh?

Ah - They're not long term store though. Just exams and stuff. No point have all 30 out when you don't need them. They're certainly not off lease as the thread title says anyway.

today I will mostly be at home decorating
DBS put locos into the stored pool when they are undergoing routine maintenance, sometimes they are only in it a day or 2 before returning to the normal pool. It is more an accountancy exercise than anything, locos not available for service dont show up as being usable.

No, all 142s Northern put into 'warm store' are now back in service. All 14x and 15x trains are with operators none are stored off lease.

Cheers for confirming.

I thought there were some Sprinters that went "off lease" when they left FGW, but that was a while back

It just shows the fundamental problem with our leasing market where its eseentially being treated by banks as a safe long term investment which only needs new capital when the Government offers to back the loans.

Have any Roscos actually invested in new stock (not refurbishment) that the Dft didnt specifically ask them to?
