Mk3 TS(D) 42356 at Totnes 14/07/18 42356 was originally built as Prototype HST Trailer Standard 42002. This is turn was converted to TF 41173. Then converted back to a TS(D) with a disabled toilet and numbered 42356

Must be all of 48 years old now? Roughly that I'd say. I'm a little surprised 42356 ended up being painted green to be honest given it's peculiarities from the production vehicles. Certainly similar vehicle 42353 stayed in FGW Blue until the end and was in a rather poor state - a vehicle that was pretty much fit for the bin.

That's what I suspected tbh. It's a shame these historic prototypes couldn't be mated up with the remaining pre-production power car but I can also fully understand the many reasons why this isn't going to happen sadly.

It has passed stourbridge Junction on time with 47593 and 43083 on rear. Also further to this does anyone know what 47593 took to longmarston for storage this morning on 5z20 crewe to longmarston move heard it was a red mk1 support vehicle for storage. Or maybe another hst stock move is due soon. From long marston.
That mark 1 was just used as a barrier coach and came back with the 47 and 43

47712 'Lady Diana Spencer' leads 5 ex-GWR Mk3s and ex-EMR 43083 past Milton Crossing, working the 5Z36 0714 Crewe H.S. to Eastleigh Arlington (Zg). The consist was meant to take the Northampton Loop but instead switched to the mainlines at Rugby, resulting in it being 35 minutes early passing me...

I know the powercar is owned, or at least operated, by LSL. I'd imagine the MK3s are as well.

They are going to Eastleigh to get painted either to head back to Crewe or possibly Margate but the second is rather unlikely.

Any idea what livery it’s going to come out in? Intercity? I doubt it would happen but it would be good if LSL put a valenta engine in it and replace its vp185

Given that 90001 and 90001 received only paint and the lack of Valenta engines on the mainland, unless LSL find significant value in attempting to obtain one from a submarine then it is likely to just be a cosmetic livery change maybe with some minor alterations (light clusters for example)
Not sure LSL would want to replace a modern-ish VP185 with a clapped out Valenta. They're a charter company, not preservationists in the traditional sense. I'm curious as to why they've gone for a VP equipped power car, rather than one of the MTU ones from GWR or LNER.
Available Valentas. 125 Group have some, but those are destined for their own power cars.
Agreed on LSL not wanting to go for valentas. As for why they'd want the VP185s, they are reportedly better on fuel (& oil) consumption and will go longer between overhauls, so would seem to be a natural fit for a charter operation! Don't forget also that the GWR examples are fitted with ATP which as Scotrail are learning is a pain maintenance wise, and the LNER examples are currently all (supposed to be!) in use replacing the ex-EMT sets
Not all the LNER ones are going to EMT. There's a couple for XC, a couple damaged and a few with (what looks like) no future.
