Odd Metropolitan Line Journey

Having travelled extensively on the Met for more than 10 years yesterday I encountered a first
Northbound evening rush hour train at around 19.00
Uxbridge semi-fast Nothing unusual as not timetabled but happens occasionally
However it came up the slow lines but non stopped Wembley park, Preston Rd and Northwick park slowing right down in each case
Quick question for our resident Control staff If I may
How often does this happen?
Why would this be done ?

Trains can run fast via the local lines north and south of Harrow at any time; whilst it's not hugely common to the south of Harrow it certainly happens a couple of times a week. Reasons include training, congestion, asset failure, regulation and more. Unfortunately I doubt anyone will be able to be more specific than that - only the signallers at Wembley and Harrow are likely to know why if it wasn't asset failure (unlikely if it was only one train).

I spent a good 10 years travelling daily on the Met, until about 2009... I can remember trains running via the slows and non-stopping Preston Road etc, but they did that at without slowing down, so either the OP's train was following a stopper closely (very likely), or the rules have changed, which is it?

New timetable from 12 September has 5 morning, 3 evening UX1 semi-fasts

Likely reasons include, a train delayed in Wembley platform 1, or on the fast line and a wrong route given by the signaller and accepted by the driver.

is full line speed running permitted when non stopping through platforms 2/5 at wembley?

Presumably they can't run very fast because they have to go over a set of points and move onto the 'slow' line before/after Wembley - the northbound line straight on goes to Platform 1 so any train using Platform 2 needs to slow down to come off the fast line to use it.
