i went to South Elmsall station earlier today, and noticed these seemingly out of place car stop signs just to the north of the station, theres a 10 car (not included on the photo) a 12 and a 14 car stop sign. if i had to guess id say they had something to do with Kirkby N.S, but does anyone know what they were used for?

Is the 14 Car from Class 373 days, were they ever potentially required to call at South Elmsall?

thats what i originally thought, but if thats the case then the 10 and 12 car stops are even more unusual

Turnbacks for shunting ?
that would make the most sense, but theres no crossovers for at least 5 miles towards adwick

Did anyone else initially think that the South Elmsall sign said 'Lift your spirits with funny jokes, trending memes...'? :)

They look like relics from a time when longer trains might have called there (even if it wasn't a regular occurrence). There used to be a similar looking 12 off the end of platform 4 at Wigan NW too.
