Obtaining infrastructure data

Hi,
I’m trying to model the UK Rail network and have trains move on it. I’m just modelling the Cambridge to Brighton route right now. The trouble that I’m having is that I cannot seem to find some of the data on the rail infrastructure. By infrastructure I mean tracks, signals and platforms. It would be really nice to have data, for example

• where exactly the Shepreth junction between Cambridge and Foxton is.
• Which tracks go into which platforms.

I have looked into the National Rail data at https://opendata.nationalrail.co.uk/. I have parsed all the data that I could get my hands on. But I was unable to find anything as to how the rail network is actually structured physically.

Any help with obtaining infrastructure data would be greatly appreciated.

@Legolash2o may be able to help, but I fear that the information you seek is kept as documentation rather than datasets.

Maybe OpenStreetMap, https://www.openstreetmap.org, might be a good starting point. It's probably not perfect for rail, but you should be able to get some usable data from it.

Ordnance Survey, https://beta.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/developers, is another alternative. I don't know if this data is available for free from OS via the OS OpenData Plan.

And according to this developer blog post relating to Dovetail's TSW2 Marseille-Avignon TGV route, even Google Earth is a potential source. You might find the description of their workflow helpful.

I would be very interested to see what you create. Please do update us with your progress.
