Hi, just wondering if OBB coupons would be allowed on the Nightjet service from Vienna to Zurich? And if so, anyone have an idea of the price for it?

I think you would need a SBB one as well as a ÖBB one for Austria.

Over & above that a supplement for the seat/couchette/sleeper as required.

I'll see if I can dig something out. My internet is ropey at present.

You could, of course, do Wien-Feldkirch which is wholly within Austria (and there are two trains to choose from) if you don't want to use the SBB coupon.

Didn't think of doing the journey fully in Austria for it, but I think we'd have to because the rest of my family don't have the coupons for Switzerland, only Austria. From there we could buy tickets for the last leg to Zurich. Thanks very much for the help.

The second Feldkirch sleeper is Wien-Bregenz which has a later timetable slot, if that matters. Uses ex DB single-deck sleepers.
You could go right through to Bregenz but its then further to Zurich IIRC.

If we were to use the feldkirch sleeper would using the coupons allow us to book a full compartment to use if there is three of us so we wouldn't have to share with another person?

You can only have 3 people in a 3-berth sleeper compartment anyway.

Not much in it actually

Bregenz - St Gallen - Zurich is not much different distance wise to Buchs - Sargans - Zurich, as Feldkirch - Buchs - Sargans is going south to go north again, whereas via St Gallen is almost west - east as the crow flies.

Not sure how much the OP is actually gricing, but St Gallen - Zurich still has the Basel IRs with haulage by mainly older Re4/4II - but for how long?

Looks like it's not possible online, sadly. Think you'd need to contact OeBB direct - their customer contact people are usually quick to reply. Or a Staff Travel specialist.

In general things may seem complex on sleeper trains with staff coupons/FIP fares but it can be broken down into two broad systems (that are sometimes not mutually exclusive).

1) Ticket & supplement: you need a ticket, pass, or permit for the actual travel + a supplement for the type of accommodation required on the train.

Or,

2) A "Global" fare: where travel & accommodation are provided on one ticket. There is generally a special FIP fare available.

If you are travelling to Switzerland then you are correct in that your family will not receive SBB coupons but will qualify for a 50% FIP fare - regardless of whether you break your journey at the border and/or take night of day services this fact will remain so you should take the train that suits your need.

That said in some cases there are certain public rate advance tickets (e.g. Spärpreise) that beat the 50% FIP rate but carry greater restrictions.
