NYMR vandalism

I have just seen a report on the Middlesbrough Gazette website that the 8 coach Gresley teak carriage set based at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway was vandalised overnight with windows smashed and internal fittings wrecked.

ITV Calendar just had a report on this. Disgusting, but could have been worse damage.

Just reading the story and agree with most of the comments made on the 'comments section' of the report.

Some are very passionate and understandably so such as this one by CaptSensible:
"What on earth is up with these "people" ? Apart from being braindead scum they are also surplus to requirements on this planet. When are the authorities going to do something realistic. There are the scum setting fires in Yarm, the worthless scum causing mayhem in Grove Hill and much more. And what gets done ? NOTHING !!! 20 community hours here, a tag there, a £20 fine etc etc. What an absolute waste of time. GET THESE SCUM OFF THE STREETS !!!!!!! Lets start with ten years minimum inside and work up from there !!!" by CaptSensible (5 Likes)

The problem is where would you put them? The prisons are full

What would they learn? even if the prisons were not full, putting someone in for criminal damage next to thieves, murderers, etc may entice them into further criminal activity, etc.

And also a £20 fine? get real. It will be far more than that.

Put me in charge of the prisons, with a free hand and no European Court of Human Rights, I could guarantee the prison population would fall because people would not wish to repeat the experience. Job sorted, no repeat offending cos it aint worth it.
