Nymr galas events

Hi,
has anyone any experiences of the gala events on the nymr that occur end april/early may? That is about the only weekend i can do next year, i normally go up there at easter but hope to be doing someting else at that time in 2011. My main reason is to travel through to whitby from pickering by steam, which one can not do on sundays when the summer northern rail timetables comes into operation. I i live down south so bank hol weeends are good for me, i can go up on the sat, play on the line on sun and coem back home on mon.

I just wonder if these galas get very overcrowded which can take the edge of the enjoyment?

I’ve been to the North Yorkshire Moors steam gala in the past. I’d say that the NYMR galas are very popular and generally draw a good crowd, which is understandable given that the NYMR is one of the leading preserved lines in Britain and one of the most established.

The North York Moors galas I feel are very well managed, both in planning and carrying out the events, so whilst they are often busy, they never feel overcrowded. When I’ve been on gala weekends the variety of locos has been good, and I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed the day. The NYMR galas are some of the best of any preserved line in the country IMHO, both for management of the events and the variety they give the visitors.

Wow, that was a quick reply and very helpful. Thank you. I agree, i think the nymr is one of the best lines in the uk and with good off train attractions, ie goathland, pickering & now whitby as well as the pleasure of a good length line too....rgds
