NYMR 101 Diagrams

I've seen a couple of photographs of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway class 101 in use over the last couple of days, does this unit have any set diagrams or is it ad-hoc?

I know the winter timetable states when a service will be DMU but looking at the timetable for the last few days all I can see is 'diesel hauled'...

It ran some evening services as part of the beer / steam gala to get passengers back to Pickering after the steam trains had finished for the day.

The NYMR website https://www.nymr.co.uk/ has a daily Loco Roster accessed from bottom right of the web pages. It lists the departure times from Pickering, Grosmont and Whitby with the loco involved with that train. The 101 was running yesterday, and is listed as running today as well, which suggests it may be in use all this week. It can be seen in action on their two webcams, accessed from https://www.nymr.co.uk/pages/category/webcams if you can't get there in person. Watching it running yesterday on the 16.30 from Grosmont it did a very smart run up to Goathland, taking about 2 minutes less than the average steam-hauled train!

Any diesel turns shown in the winter timetable are likely to be the 101 as none of the operational diesel are capable of providing heat (note likely - not guaranteed).

The appearance of this thread has proven quite timely, as I've now been duly warned of the disappointment when the 101 turns up on my journey back from Goathland to Pickering next week.

Ah well, at least there should be steam on my outward trip.

the met cam 101 is probably the classic 1st gen unit so a ride on it should be looked forward to

I just automatically assumed the NYMR would be running a "proper train". I can't imagine the missus will be terribly impressed but after a few pints neither of us will really mind.

I can understand the practical reasons for the NYMR running a diesel unit on certain services in the off season, and am just grateful that, compared to many other established preserved lines, the NYMR are still operating a service on a weekday in October.

Three set train service no less, up to the beginning of November. running the DMU vice diesel hauled at least means there is heating.

I just automatically assumed the NYMR would be running a "proper train". I can't imagine the missus will be terribly impressed but after a few pints neither of us will really mind.

I can understand the practical reasons for the NYMR running a diesel unit on certain services in the off season, and am just grateful that, compared to many other established preserved lines, the NYMR are still operating a service on a weekday in October.

In that case check the timetable, its quite clear which is the DMU "d" , and catch the other services, so not the 1630 back to Pickering but the 1745 instead

The loco roster on the website is handy but it doesn't look to show anything other than what is running today...

Click on the LOCOMOTIVE ROSTER panel under the list of locos and this takes you to a separate page showing all the scheduled departures from Pickering, Grosmont and Whitby with the loco or unit assigned to that departure for that day. Can't link you directly as the page URL varies. Sorry if this wasn't clear from my post #3 above.

There's no mention of "d" services being a DMU. The timetable states "these services are scheduled to be diesel hauled." I only know otherwise thanks to this thread.

The later 17:45 train doesn't work for us in terms of either pub opening times or bus times back to York. We'll be happy enough to go with the flow around those limitations.

I'm not certain how far in advance they prepare the roster; it may be worth e-mailing them to ask, perhaps? (I have seen the roster change halfway through a day when a loco has failed!)

Given the nature of things I doubt they’ll know until the morning. Northern won’t even know which units are certain to work to Whitby much more in advance.

When diagrams are produced for galas and the like they’re still very much subject to change, as was the case at the gala just gone, 3 failures and one loco working which wasn’t expected to be.

The traction in use was:-
Black 5 on the Pullman.
Std 4 76079.
B1.
DMU and Class 25 Sybilla.

No idea what was rostered for the D run on the timetable.
