I would like travel up to Inverness on the 12pm (Highland Cheiftan) on a weekday in the next week or so.
I am finding the information given by NXEC in their website a little confusing.

On the timetable it shows the knife and fork symbol for food service continuing well North of Edinburgh - I have always been able to have lunch and/or dinner on this service up to now.

However in their ( now much restricted) list of restaurant cars offered on Northbound services this is not listed as a service. I am finding it difficult to differentiate between the 'at seat' and 'restaurant' services - it seems to have the same menu.

Am I just being incredibly thick or is their NOT now a service provided on this train?
If this last bastion of civilised travel on this service has now been pruned back then I will seriously consider flying up there.

Poor You!:| Thats so sad. No one should get that punishment! Get there early whether you have or dont have a reserved seat. It gets really busy even at Kings X!! BTW if you use the buffet, dont. When I went all the drinks they sold for a 8hour journey was Coke, Coke, Sprite, Coke & Coke!!!!<( (Hot drinks : Hot Chocolate (Ran out @ York), Tea & Coffee)

Just Fly I say! Or get a Pendo to Glasgow & change for a FSR service

The At Seat Dining menu still looks pretty good, although admittedly not the full restaurant service, it looks quite tasty. Of course, the fact it's not available in Standard Class (which I fail to see the reasoning behind) and the fact it's not the full restaurant service is disappointing.

I agree, the menu isn't too bad but to rub salt into the wound, it's not even available on every train!

Yes, but there is a yummy new menu available for SC, which also includes bites to eat that are heated up over the counter. I honestly don't think these changes are bad if I'm honest - it gives greater FC capacity which is needed IMO.
