hi all,

New here, so be kind!

I booked an off peak day return for monday newark - york. The nxec website wanted an extra 15 quid for our party's seats. Book the same tickets with trainline and no charge was made for the seats, but we still got reservations with the tickets. Is this a way to avoid these silly charges for others or did I just get lucky?

I was aware of the new charges but thought it was appplied by all selling tickets for nxec, not just when buying tickets from nxec themselves.

Thanks for the welcome !

This memo has been circulated from ATOC to many rail staff on this specific issue.

Dear Travel Agent

National Express are introducing Seat Reservation Fees on some tickets from 17th May 2009 as detailed in Newsrail Express 391.

Travel Agents' Ticket Issuing Systems are unable to charge for these fees at present, and National Express are currently in dialogue with both Trainline and Evolvi with an aim to reaching an agreeable solution over the coming weeks. However from 17th May, agents can continue to offer seat reservations free of charge. Once discussions with Trainline and Evolvi are concluded, this will be communicated in due course.

Kind regards
ATOC Travel Agents on behalf of
National Express

Tip:

If you want an Advance ticket on NXEC, use NXEC to get 10% off. (Reservations are free with Advance tickets)

If you want a walk-on ticket on NXEC, use any other operators' site (NOT the main Thetrainline as this charges fees!) to avoid the reservation fee.

Hopefully word will get round as to which site to use and passengers will avoid being unfairly charged a penalty for using the 'wrong type of website'.
