And would you be able to tell me which letter goes with which carriage??
e.g. A with First Class, B With First Class etc

Thanks

Well I don't know if NXEC is the same as FGW or anyone, but theres usually 1 PC(Power Car), 2 First Class Coaches, a Buffet then 4 Standed mk3s and a TGS Standard MK3 then the other PC.

Yes, but NXEC run 9 Car trains, and including the Power Cars - 11.

But on the sides of the MK3's on NXEC's NXEC liveried train, there are Carriage Letters - A, B, C, D etc.
I need to know what the letters are for each carriage on the train...

The buffet is the coach after Coach G IIRC. B-G inclusive are Standard Class. B is the quiet carriage. G is the restaurant (FC) and there's 2 more FC carriages behind that IIRC.

What happens in the short formed sets (ie. ex-Virgin set)? Or have these been lengthened to 9 cars?

"All the sets are 9 vehicles."
All the 91s aka 225s are 9 plus the loco & DVT, but their HSTs do sometimes include 8 car sets (plus 2 PCs). I'm not sure if its fixed but the 8 + 2 sets are often seen on the services running over my avatar (north of Edinburgh).

Generally, they run as in JST's first option, (listed above).
But your question refers specifically to the NXEC livery'ed set, which is full length, tho' (as I've noted previously) even that has been broken and re-formed, resulting for a brief time in a blue-grey-blue-grey-blue formation! (horrendous!)
Glady, its been more consistently 9 NXNE livery'd MkIIIs plus at least one grey PC, tho' only rarely with 2 grey PCs.

And as an aside, isn't it a waste that the DVTs usually run empty, all of them, all day, every day? (Yes, I know the reasons, but isn't it a waste of capacity? Red Star, anyone?)

thanks for all youq help. but the missing coach is coach A. I found pics of the set leaving and the person had taken pics of the MK3s as they rolled past. Either way, why arent a lot of people supposed to sit in this mysterious carriage?

And does anyone know why the carriages go from G to L?

GNER used to use Regional Eurostars which have 14 coaches and the coach letters were reorganised to suit them. Presumably H-K were standard class on them. Coach A may be the reservation coach for baggage on HSTs as the have baggage space at the standard class (Scotland) end, but the DVT on 225s is at the first class (London) end.

Just as a random point, noticed the ex-MML set today at York - haven't seen this one for ages! How many sets have now been refurbished? I believe that my last 5 NXEC journeys have all been on refurbished sets, so there must be a fair few now (or they're just following me ).

Coach A used to be the smoking accommodation on GNER, so when they removed the smoking carriage, they re-lettered them to make clear that there was no smoking accommodation and to avoid people booking A thinking that they would be able to smoke.

Quite right, too!

Its only the power cars that can smoke.
