Never known anyone mourn the loss of a TOC to such an extent. I was disappointed when Wessex Trains disappeared, same for VXC, but that's it.

And how the NXEC livery could scare anyone?! I've never heard of such a ridiculous thing.

I have to admit...

The only ever liveries that I missed were the VXC Livery, GNER, and the Orange and Teal on the 170's for MML

As for the Branding goes... Money & Advertising. If someone has a good experience on say NXEC on a Journey from Leeds to London, and they then see that they can get a Coach for cheaper from the same company, they may be more likely to use it. Same goes for First, First Busses, First Transpennine Express. Bit like a sublimimal message..

National Express aren't going away any time soon, and they have the east coast franchise until the end of March 2015

Can't stand either of them. The interim livery seems as though it's been forced into place, and even if the doors were white the trains would still not look right.
As for the complete livery, all I can say is that it reminds me far too much of North America's Greyhound and Grey Line buses.

If there's one thing I can't stand at all, it's the fact that bus companies are buying out the train companies and advertising the fact that they are!

Perhaps the owners of the East Coast franchise could return to the apple green locomotives and varnished teak coaches of the pre war LNER

Here, coming to think of it that would look quite nice actually.
Still, I am going to fight National Express single-pawed, although anybody who prefers GNER to a coach company is welcome to join me. And as for the location, it's only for my own good. If I were there a year ago I would have been protesting every day and every night.

You were halfway right as it happens. What I was thinking of was a cross between those two- after all, the original HST livery treated the (luggage now, guards then) compartment at the back as "coach" rather than "loco".
