I was in London yesterdy and today, and noticed that there was a 90 in First Scotrail livery for the sleepers on an NXEA Norwich service. But I thought NXEA had its own fleet of 90s, and were not from EWS not DBS

Secondly, I though that the white stripe seen on National Express trains in older liverys was just on exGNER ones, asit covered the red stripe with the GNER stuff on, but they have done it with the trains in FGE and other liveries, where in my opininion, sticking a NatEx logo on would be enough, not just sticking a white stripe on that looks wierd on FGE 321s....

NXEA hire in a DBS 90 when one of their own is away for work to be done. Someone in the DBS allocation office has a twisted sense of humour, so the First liveried ones can turn up.

Incidentally, I've seen pictures of GNER liveried 90 at Liverpool street. Why was one ever painted in those colours?

As for the "white stripe"- it's on everything that hasn't yet gone white and silver. Even the odd units still in "Anglia" livery, and the predominantly white (though "yellowed" by sunlight) WAGN liveried units have been "striped".

I'm pretty sure that 90019 has gone back, but we've still got 90024.

isnt it because NXEA's 90's are currently in for major overhauls? C6?

I'm not too sure about C6X.... we've only got 3 that have been painted - 90003/8 & 15, and they were done ages ago. I'm sure that theres only one full set of Mk3's done, and the other odd coach here and there. I think that NX are hiring other 90s, as 90001-15 aren't exactly the most reliable of locos, so I believe that they're having a bit of work done on them.

Nothing seems to be coming out in NX livery at Crown Point though. I heard that 156 402 was going to be done though.

The 90s are going through a programme of G exams at Crewe ETD. A Cx exam is a unit/coaching stock exam.

90024 was the GNER liveried loco. It was painted when it was hired to GNER for use on services to Leeds mainly during the class 91 refurbishment programme and after 89001 failed and stored. The loco hardly ever worked on the ECML for its intended purpose instead it could be seen just anywhere but the ECML, its duties taken by any suitable 90 or 91. 90024 now carries First ScotRail livery although this doesnt stop it running on the GEML.

From what I remember, that livery was always a slightly creamy coloured base rather than pure white - I don't think it's an effect of aging. It's probably in the Dulux catalogue as 'Gold Top Milk White'
