NXEA to Strike....Again!

As some of you know, NXEA took multiple strike actions last month over pay and conditions. The last couple were called off while a new deal was put to members. Members have now voted to reject the offer and have announced a week long strike from September 21st.

Great :roll: this can only mean an influx of passengers onto the c2c and District lines (my local lines) made even worse when at weekends the District Line and sometimes c2c have engineering works. And mainly this is just bad for passengers and commuters.

I would guess that this is perhaps seen by the union primarily as a tactic to get the company back to the table with a sensible offer, rather than having the expectation that a whole week of striking will actually take place? It's going to hit the strikers pretty hard in the pocket if it does go ahead.

No, it's more complicated than that. I'm hopeful that the union can renegotiate an acceptable deal from the bones of the previous offer.

Well, I guess that depends upon how long it takes the union to ballot their members on any new deal and whether such a new deal is found to be acceptable by said members. A further strike in this dispute is hardly an inevitability, now is it?

Your link made no mention of the offer being accepted. Obviously if it has been accepted then further strikes would not be needed or warranted.

Well that's certainly how it appears. Why else would the strike be "cancelled" when the previous actions were simply "suspended" pending the outcome of a ballot?

I guess it could be read either way. But I do find it slightly hard to believe that an offer as be offered and staff accepted within a few hours.

Unless of course the unioun as accepted without putting it to its members?

“As a result of these discussions, the on-going pay dispute is now resolved and the union has called off their strike action which was proposed to commence on Monday 21 September.

It has happened before on the basis of the reps taking a "sounding" of their members. We shall wait and see if this means a ballot will follow.
