According to NXEA's website a train has failed near Needham Market this morning causing delays and three services have already been cancelled which are:

10:19 Ipswich - Cambridge
11:43 Cambridge - Ipswich
14:00 London Liverpool St - Norwich

Ok, thanks for the info guys. I feel sorry for the unfortunate passengers that were stranded onboard the failed train. I wonder if the 90 on the rear of the train was used to eventually run around and haul the stock to Stowmarket Station to detrain the passengers.

Sometimes such a pain in the backside to run-round in remote sections due to disruption to traffic on opposite line. Less disruptive on this occasion to wait for thunderbird or head back from the loco to Ipswich.

Oh & ironically was Needham Market area that was the location of todays tragic fatallity with a dog walker involving 12.30 ex-Liverpool St.

You are correct, Needham Market was indeed the location of todays incident. I was in Cambridge when it happened. I managed to board the very late 17:43 Cambridge to Ipswich service formed of 170 273 which arrived in Ipswich at 20:00, an hour late.

A 50mph ESR has now been imposed on the downline over the crossing due to apparant sigthting issues...
