Hello,

Are you able to offer suggestions for stations for where I could (or shouldn't) take photos of trains on the National Express East Anglia and c2c networks?

Ipswich is pretty good as there is quite a large amount of freight that goes through there as well as passengers.

I've seen some decent shots taken at Colchester as well! If you're feeling adventurous and want to move away from station shots to lineside shots, Brantham (near Manningtree I believe!) looks decent enough! I might head down there myself when springtime arrives!!!

I took this little lot over the snowy weekend before Christmas, they are all either stations or within easy walking distance of, may or may not be as good in normal weather conditions though! http://www.redcow.fotopic.net/c1794172.html

Ipswich and Stratford are probably the most popular, as is brantham (long old walk from Manningtree though) and the bridge over the estuary at Manningtree itself, which is on my list to try out. I quite like Colchester as the long platform gives a variety of angles. Although most of the bigger stations are barriered I've not had any trouble, just the odd strange look from normals!

Chalkwell is the 'classic' LTS line location, although various stations en-route arn't too bad either.

Personally I'd stay away from local stations south/west of Shenfield and Cheshunt, but thats probably just me...

Thanks everyone for the links and advice. Out of curiousity, roughly how many colour schemes does NXEA have? I saw a few just from the photos in the link 87015 gave....

These days it's rather varied. It should be a dull white/grey thing, but a lot of carriages are still sporting the 'one' livery of all sorts of non-sensical colours, and some even have the old green and blue FGE livery.

Also, might I recommend Cambridge if you go on the West Anglia Main Line?

Funnily enough, I read the bylaws before heading over, and printed a copy to keep with me while travelling. We hade problems at only a few stations, dont know how many times I heard the "counter terrorism measures" mentioned, but, thankfully, if there were rail fans close by they all came to our defence.

As long as you kept your cool when asking for permission, it was generally okay. Many station attendants have no problem with the rail fan movement, and even told us of museums to visit, and they told us when trains were due to pass through.
