After being out of service for 2/3 years, 346 is due out on a test run from Clacton tomorrow. Unit was moved there earlier in the year for repair. All being well, she'll be returning to traffic on Monday.

As far as I know, there are NO plans for 321425 to move to Clacton to be repaired.

I would be quite suprising if they left it, as part of the handing back agreement they have to get all trains back to working order/how they recieved them.
NXEA's inherited ex-FGE 321 fleet had one unit in bits and long term OOS, so if they leave 425 as a christmas tree there is no change in what they return at franchise end.

They've got a few units to get working again before the end of the franchise. The next unit that looks like it'll be out after a long time out of traffic is 317511.

315850, 317514 and 321425 are all still dud and requiring quite a bit of work to get them back into service.

Can't help you with individual ones, but normally, they have quite a major problems, and then start getting stripped for spares for the rest of the fleet, and its just a downward spiral

At the risk of sounding stupid, what happened to them.

317511 got set on fire shortly after refurbishment.

317514 failed with VCB tripping last year, (May/June 2010) went back to Ilford and never came out.

315850 has a cracked wheelset (I think!)

321425 was involved in a fatality on the Clacton line early last year and never came out of Ilford, but I suspect there's probably more to it than that.

Not sure what's up with 346, but it looks like the guys at Clacton have sorted it.

Tripping VCB? Cracked wheelset?

These are poor reasons to have a unit out of traffic in my opinion. I know you said you think but if that's the case...wow lol.
The fatality one is interesting. Again should that be the case then I reckon its had some bad underside damage. However, we can only speculate unless someone here can confirm.

The one i have to admit to finding rather strange is 312425 - Considering that only came out of storage last year!
