Hi

This is advertised as only being available from stations within the daytripper* area, however is it possible for it to be bought from any station ticket office?

Is it available on the rovers menu - if so what are they listed as?

No - its got its own special stock but it is printed by the ticket printer (fed through the same inlet as railcards on the printers) as I said in the small print on my first post I have personally been issued a Daytripper within the area on normal stock and have used it successfully on busses.

I would say no, but if there is a relevant code then take that along with you to the station and they may be able to print it off for you.

The daytripper is normally issued using blue coloured ticket paper which does look very smart. However, any extensions such as the one where you can go all the way to Leamington or Stratford-Upon-Avon are printed on normal train paper.

I also know that N-Networks can also be printed on bustickets, so it may be able to be purchased from outside the boundry...

As for the orgininal question, I'm guessing it is the same type of ticket such as the West Yorkshire Day Rovers which I've only been able to buy within the boundary. I guess ticket office staff at somewhere not in the boundary are reluctant to sell it in case you try to use it where it is not valid. In theory they should be able to sell it but they may refuse.

The n-Network Daytripper has been refused sale to me from Leamington (even if wanting to buy an add-on to Leamington with it) and I was told it's because it's a Centro sponsored ticket and therefore must be bought from within the West Midlands.

I've no idea whether a bus driver will sell you one from outside the boundary (I'd imagine they would if you asked nicely), therefore I'd be interested to know if the add-on can be bought from a station outside the West Midlands if someone already holds the Daytripper.

I've successfully purchased them at Doncaster in the past, it should be in the rover enquiry as 'Netwrk Daytripper'. I remember the clerk there issued it on standard orange stock without difficulty despite never having come across said rover before.

As a West Midlander I use these quite a lot, but despite oodles of publicity by Network West Midlands/Centro/whatever it's calling itself this week, have occasionally found it queried by suspicious bus drivers when it's printed on anything other than the dedicated NWM blue-and-white rail ticket stock.

For example, you might buy one on an Arriva or Diamond bus but then face funny looks and lots of umm-ing and aah-ing as bus drivers of other companies, particularly NXWM, decide whether to condescend to allow you on their vehicle.

Of course, with London Midland planning to slash ticket office opening hours, unless Daytrippers become available from ticket vending machines or conductors' on-board machines in the correct format, this will become an increasingly common problem.

If neither can sell me the correct ticket I require for my journey, and the Permit to Travel machines are switched off in favour of TVMs, I presume I could soon legitimately be riding around half the day without a ticket before alighting at a station that can relieve me of my £5.50 ?

If a TVM is available but does not have the ticket you want, you are supposed to buy a ticket that will allow you to commence part of your journey and part-exchange it for the right ticket at the first opportunity.

What happens if the passenger can't swap it by the the time they get off the train, the ticket office at the destination is closed and they need to continue their journey by bus? I can't see a bus driver accepting a train ticket (or Permit to Travel) for part-payment.

As a resident of Birmingham the lack of this option on TVMs is an annoyance and I have raised this is with Passenger Focus as part of the consulation regarding ticket office closures.

I think it would be the passenger's interest to go and find the guard. However, I agree that this is suboptimal.
