I can't actually believe the responses to some of this. Kill the man and run him over in a public spectacle with people volunteering to do it? Absolutely sickening.

A couple of bits of info.

Guard L Caisley is back at work and has worked 1G07 0514 ex Aberystwyth this week.

Crewe drivers and guards used to sign the Cambrian but not any longer. It is at least four years since any ATW Crewe traincrew worked over this route.

A couple of Pwllheli traincrew have signed east of Machynlleth. One driver (an ex Mach driver)and one guard (who has always been at Pwllheli) but they no longer sign this route but there is talk of all Pwllheli traincrew signing to Salop next year.

She spent time covering for conductor manager doing paperwork when he was on courses. Had it confirmed today that she was back on full duties. Glad to see her back.

Incredibly the perpertrator who was on his way back to Newtown from the court appearance and was found in the toilets by a conductor and gave false name. conductor then recognised picture in paper to catch him. He got a fine.

Do you know him? I'm sure I bumped into him outside the Spar when he was scrounging Cigarettes. A bit of a tit really. The County Times will have his name and address in it.

No but spotted him in the Court Briefs in the local rag. I'm all for re opening Abermule station so him and his like can get put off short of their destination though I don think the Villagers would agree!

Railway ASBO's can be used, I know of a few on FGW. The individuals concerned were a major pain for a long time before action was taken, though. I've no idea how proactive ATW are in this area.

No amount of custodial sentencing will curb his behaviour he is a career idiot and society has to pay for his stupidity.He will carry on like this for the rest of his life and maybe will be jailed but to no avail .I hope the conductor is okay and being helped by her employers and friends she does not deserve treatment like this.

Guards will recognise him, almost all will read the local paper which covers Mach & Newtown & being in the Shropshire Star as well will mean Salop staff will also be aware. It appears they may have been aware of him prior to the incident as it's rare for a guard to ask for a ticket at a station as the passengers are boarding.

I share the general outrage about this incident both in relation to the physical assault on the guard and the criminal recklessness of trying to get the train re-started. What I cannot share, however, is the notion that the perpretator should necessarily have received a much more punitive sentence.
Just going on the facts as outlined, this individual pleaded guilty, presumably at rhe first available opportunity, so the 'tariff' is immediately reduced. It also sounds as though he cannot have known he was going to be asked to either produce a ticket or to buy one from the guard as soon as the doors of the train opened, so the assault then could not be seen as premeditated: if it had been, a stiffer sentence could have been expected. The assault did not lead to a charge of Grievous Bodily Harm nor, apparently, one of the lesser charge of Actual Bodily Harm, though I could be wrong on the latter. I am afraid the sex of the guard is not something that can be generally taken into account, no matter how this may go against the grain amongst many on this forum, myself included.
