See attached diagrams; from February 1992 the flyover line was taken out of use and all trains had to use the crossovers outside the signal box at the south end of the station, including the Leicester-Nuneaton-Birmingham services.
Subsequently
- the flyover line was reinstated in 2004
- a connection was added in 2012 from the down side of the flyover to the down slow WCML
The present status is as shown in the 2018 diagram. The crossovers at the south end of the station no longer remain as they used to be, and northbound freight trains from Leicester to the WCML go over the flyover now to avoid this.
It remains possible to cross to the down fast and slow lines on the flat using the crossovers at the north of the station, and even then to Abbey Junction and Birmingham if necessary (a vital crossover is obscured in the 2018 map under the flyover but it can be seen at
