Nuneaton Station/area.

Hi all

My first post!

Got a question someone might be able provide some info on.

I know the area around Nuneaton is been re-signalled - Coventry Box closed. Nuneaton due some time in the future.

I've been using the trains alot in the pass few months and noticed that there are installing 25kva overhead lines to the the platforms 6&7 - the news one built for the B'ham to Lecister line. I know this was installed so the train on this line did not have to cross the main - overpass bridge used.

Also there is a new point just south of the platforms - is the to link back upto the main line?

Do you know the reason? also what about the over power been installed on the platforms 6&7 (is curently DMU only for the line from B'ham to Lecester)

It was something to do with the drags from Birmingham. so to save time on the west coast, the drags could come straight over the flyover, the drag loco come off, and the pendolino/class 90 continue under its own power from Nuneaton Platform 7 and over the crossovers back onto the mainline

Thanks for the info - I think i get the idea of a 'drag loco'. A diesel unit pulling the pendolino to nuneaton.

Did not know that Vigin was planning a route from B'ham to nuneaton. Is this to service the new Coleshill Parkway - a plan for out of town parking. Like a park and ride for London?

When Birmingham to Rugby via Coventry is closed for engineering works services to Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton run to Nuneaton where a Class 57 is attached to drag he service to Birmingham.

and then in Dec2008 we have most of our virgin trains cut. The only time we will have a virgin train stop at Nuneaton between 9am and 6Pm will be when Rugby to brimingham is closed.

Don't they still drag all the way to Oxley? That's what they always used to do, since it was better than having light engine movements around New Street. Not sure about the ones that only go to Birmingham though, since last time I did drags they didn't have any Birmingham only ones at weekends (this was back when it was 57s and 47s dragging 87s and 90s). Last drag I did was 15/08/2004 with 57310 from Wolverhampton to Nuneaton. I'd also had 57305 and 47810 (with an ex Anglia Mk2 set) earlier that day (think they were the only 3 on).

I believe they now do drag to Oxley (Well they did last summer)
