Hi!

I believe there was a plan to Resignal Nuneaton - Peterboro' using Ansaldo equipment but it stalled!!! However Leicester - Nuneaton was done as part of the Rugby and Nuneaton area resignalling abolishing the samaphores at Croft Sidings and renewing the remainder of the signalling in three-aspect LED form.

However I've noticed at the eastern end, Uffington SB has now been abolished, with eastbound LED colour lights from Stamford onwards, and replacement of the main-line signals with LEDs (I saw a flashing green LED on the southbound up fast along here on my last journey to Audley End!!!)

A question or two:-

1) Will this line through Melton, Oakham and Stamford eventually be resignalled from EMCC with LEDs throughout, and if so, what's the likely timescale?

2) East of Peterborough towards March/Ely I noticed that a few LEDs have been put in occasional places, can any of the Drivers who are Forum Members and rostered to work this line tell me more about them - are they the distants or just piecemeal renewals? I first noticed them last Christmas on a trip to my Sister's at Saffrom Walden so as it was dark I couldn't see the signal plates!!!

Wasn't aware that Uffington had been abolished? It'd be an expensive alteration to put it onto Peterborough PSB (and I'm not sure if the north panel there would be able to handle the additional workload?) for little benefit, I'd have thought. Uffington's had colour-light signals in both directions for some years, presumably since it became the fringe to Peterborough - are you sure it's not just a direct replacement of those?

(I'm waiting to be proved wrong!)

The plan, as I understand it, was to put the whole line into the East Midlands SCC (sometime this decade??) - whether that'll happen in the current climate remains to be seen!

Uffington has been closed ?? first Ive heard. It works as absolute block between there and Ketton and I would presume as a fringe to Peterborough. Has the crossing gone CCTV with barriers then and who controls it ??

Eventually, though seeing as Leicester is at least 5+ years away, Syston to Helpston will be a long way off.

Stansted to Birmingham is the route i drive for XC. This is all news to me. All i know is the modernisation around Leicester area and also the raising of bridges and lowering trackbeds for guage enhancements. Some line speed increases for freight too. I dont want to see the boxes go. It works really well. The Signalmen/women all are friendly and wave. The Lower Quadrant at Ketton has a preservation order. Alot of the line speed is 90mph. Just an extra signal perhaps needed at Stamford...

The target for Leicester is by 2015, so may be earlier, but not by much Id expect.

I can confirm that Uffington box is still with us complete with gates. As Tomnick pointed out, Uffington has had colour-lights for many years now. The signal heads have just been renewed with LED types. As for March, the semaphores controlled from March East/South were replaced last year with LED colour-lights as is standard with new signal installations.

Croft SB is still in use also - just had the lineside kit renewed (in part) when the fringe to Rugby SCC was commissioned.
