Nice one mate! I'm heading there on Tuesday i hope!

Some good traction there. As you can see, you get all sorts. The DBSO won't be running through though. This week was for that. Try and see if you can get some Gen from people for some great traction.

Nice pictures, I quite like the NMT one.

However is there any reason for being dressed like carrots in the DRS seminar shot? Just makes you look like a plank if there's no genuine reason for wearing them. Particularly since at least one doesn't meet current group standards for PPE. I've been forced to wither several veg wearing high vis on station platforms in the past.

Have to ask why they were being worn as well? In my view the only time people should wear them is when on official duty. There does seem to be a prevalence for wearing them, perhaps people think it gives them the right to do things they shouldn't, or makes them feel important?

If they were trying to look like rail staff then the image is slightly undermined by them all looking about 12

We wern't trying to look like rail staff, and two people there did get told off for wearing them, even though one of them is a RailTrack hi-vis. As for trying to get horns, we were just doing it the normal way, by lifting your left arm at them. It wern't my idea for the Hi Vis thing anyway, but what you gonna do bout it?

Is that why the original image is called HR_Staff_Phot.jpg then?

even though one of them is a RailTrack hi-vis.
What difference does that make, apart from making it at least 5 years out of date?

As for trying to get horns, we were just doing it the normal way, by lifting your left arm at them.
That's a way for actual staff to acknowledge a drivers warning, not a way to 'get horns'.

It wern't my idea for the Hi Vis thing anyway, but what you gonna do bout it?
Remember what happened to the last bunch of stoats who arsed about at Nuneaton?

Makes them more important and grants them God given rights over anyone who doesn't have a high vis, long lens and tripod.
No idea why anyone would want to wear a high-viz unless they have to anyway??

If I run into you out and about being wallys making arm signals at train drivers, get you booked for it.

One of these days one of you numpties is going to do something waving your arms around that's going to get seriously misunderstood by the person on the other end and get you into a lot of trouble.

Have no idea if you're conversant with operational railways as a whole, but arm signals do mean something on the railway and the natural instinct of a train driver to someone wearing orange hi vis doing them is going to be to respond to them. If as a result of your actions a train grinds to a stand in an emergency stop then you're endangering the railway and may be removed by an officer of the railway or a constable and even charged with an offence.

I would humbly suggest that you grow up, and quickly.

I once saw someone standing in the middle of Rannoch Moor wearing a hi-vis with his tripod set up despite being miles away from the track. There was also someone sighted at Chopeersfest last year on the MRC up a tree wearing one while photting.

Look at the DRS Staff member (possibly the driver?)

The look on his face says "What the hell are these lot up to?"

What complete and utter clowns! As for the quote "even though one of them is a RailTrack hi-vis"...the few letters on the back makes a difference how exactly?

Suspect they just wanted to feel like they worked on the railway. If you actually did, you'd rather not be wearing one...nasty, horrible things .

On a serious note, an arm in the air usually signifies an acknowledgment of a warning. However, if there was no warning given and the person was wearing hi vis clothing, one may be inclined to think there actually is something amiss rather than the usual veg on the platform. I'm sure most drivers have seen it all before, but to to a newly qualified/inexperienced driver it may be time to clean the seat after use...:???:

Not that it'll make the blindest bit of difference.

i have no idea with the hi-vis idea, mines a stagecoach bus one anyway - i cannot see you in anyway stopping me from wearing a hi-vis wherever i want to, nor is there a law which states that you cannot wear high visibility clothing.

Also, mike, Railtrack don't exist anymore...

I don't know what it is with this heritage railways thing is, its not very good at the moment... (new website coming soon)

As for wearing high visibility clothing, the love for it you are suggesting does not exist, as i very rarely even bother with them at work either, unlike others who cannot survive without looking like a huge orange glow-worm (hint hint certain bve failnetwork "staff").

Also, D306, id like this photo removed from the internet as it is suggesting i am involved in the things people are suggesting in this post - i do not like to be classed as 'veg' or 'stupid trainspotters' or whatever, and certainly do not think that flailing at trains is a good idea, its stupid and childish. i only had the vis on for 1 minute and to be honest i don't need people thinking the wrong idea of me.

Seems to be just like previous occasions with people trying to justify their actions with comments like "it wasn't my idea" and "I only had it on for a minute". I'd still like to know why you took Hi-viz clothing with you, and what purpose you thought it served by wearing it.

I hate to butt in gents; but may I reference the Guidelines for Rail Enthusiasts

On the station platform

You should ensure you act safely and sensibly at all times. Please remember the following:

* Stay clear of the platform edge and behind the yellow lines where they are provided for safety reasons.
* Do not trespass onto any area of the railway that is not available to passengers.
* Do not climb on any structure or interfere with platform equipment.
* Ensure that you do not obstruct any signalling equipment or signs which are vital to the safe running of the railways.
* Avoid wearing anything which is similar in colour to safety clothing, such as high -visibility jackets, as this could cause confusion to drivers or other railway employees.
* Avoid congregating at busy areas of the platform (e.g. customer information points, departure screens, waiting areas, seating etc.) or where this may interfere with the duties of station staff.
* Be aware of your surroundings. We also kindly ask you take note of any unusual behaviour and activities and report anything suspicious to a member of staff or for more serious incidents, to the British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40. In an emergency, dial 999. Your presence at the station can be very helpful to us as extra "eyes and ears" and can be a positive security benefit.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

This includes wearing them for only a minute or two, and may well be mistaken for an indication of danger and cause confusion. I'm going to appeal enthusiast to enthusiasts, please don't wear hi-vis on the platforms or even when linesiding beond the railway bounday. Admittidley when I am traveling between the East Lancs Railway and my home, I sometimes wear a hi-vis coat and carry a hi-vis backpack, but this is only because they are part of my uniform and kit. On the platforms spotting or photting it is not necessary, doesn't look perticularly cool, and is frowned upon by staff and enthusiasts alike. Please don't wreck it for the rest of us!!

The following should cover it:

Railway Bylaws said:
An authorised person may, in an emergency or in other circumstances in
which he believes he should act in the interests of safety, issue instructions to
any person on the railway. No person shall, without good cause, disobey such
instructions.

before we get back to the classic arguement craig, may i point out that nobody asked me to take it off, and it is one i use for work (be it at the bus garage or the nene valley)

anyway enough of this stupid stuff, this forum is about railways not high visibility clothing! (I can start a high vis forum if you wish...)

Those that need to know - KNOW!!!
Fusionrail it doesnt matter if anyone asked you to take it off or not - quite simply Hi vis clothing is for staff use as in the enthusiasts guidelines and can cause confusion. So when another party go to Nuneaton and are refused access they will all know which group to blame.

I understand there there is an important point to be put accross here, but can it be done in a slightly less aggressive manner (this is aimed at earlier posts rather than the last few)

So is Nuneaton a bus garage or part of the NVR?

BTW, I'm still waiting for that bin full of petrol you promised me ;)

Veg.
