Nuclear Flasks on Cambridge-Ipswich

hi at 8.25 i was on my way to work and as i was riding up the road i herd the thrash of a class 37 so i sped up to get to the teversham road level crossing and saw two class 37's and a 20 with to nuclear flask wagons. i have lived right next to this line since i was 4 and am now 24 and the odd cool thing comes past but this is the best thing i have ever seen on this line. i have herd these workings are kept a secret but does anyone have any info on this working cheers

I think that they are the nuclear flask trains running from Sizewell (Leiston) to Sellafield(?). It is standard disposal of nuclear waste. If they do not normally run along the Ipswich-Cambridge line i assume they have been diverted by engineering works in London. Apparently several locomotives are used in case of a breakdowon so the nuclear waste isn't left stranded. Hope this helps

Athough two locos are normally enough (for trains from Valley, at least).

it may have also been a loco transfer- uses less paths and staff than running light engine as well, and the home depot is near the destination for the waste.

DRS do that a lot, see quite a variety of locos doing Hartlepool - Tyne Valley - Sellafield some days, even if it does look unusual.
