from todays local paper, the daily post.

Woman killed by train minutes after security staff escorted female trespasser off railway lines
Aug 4 2010

A WOMAN was hit and killed by a train yesterday just minutes after an empty train missed a female trespasser on the same length of track.

The fatal collision at 5.45am at Saltney Junction on the Welsh border happened little more than 30 minutes after another near miss.

An empty passenger train bound for Llandudno Junction narrowly avoided a fatal collision at about 5.15am.

Last night a Network Rail spokesman said: “We got a phone call from the driver of an empty passenger train that had been involved in a near miss with a female trespasser.

“The driver was shaken up and requested a relief driver, who was sent. A second train was asked to check the line and at 5.20am they went through and found it clear.

“The next thing we know is that the 5.45am service has unfortunately struck a woman trespasser and she died on the scene.”

It has not been confirmed whether the same woman was involved in both incidents but a British Transport Police spokesman said: “The incident is being treated as non-suspicious and an investigation to determine the full circumstances is ongoing.”

Cheshire Coroner’s Office said: “We’re still waiting for formal identification to be made. A post mortem will be conducted later in the week and then an inquest will be opened and adjourned.”
