NR Signaller Assessment Centre format?

I've recently been invited to attend a NR Signaller Assessment Centre for the first time and have received the expected booklet giving me examples of the sorts of aptitude tests I'll be required to undertake.

I'm happy with what's required of me in the tests - but what is unclear to me is whether there will also be a formal interview on the same day. In my invitation letter, the format of the "3.5 hour" event is given as "Panel Interview", but I gather that the testing takes about 3 hours and thought the interview stage was a separate, later step if you passed the tests. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should be expecting?

The letter also asks me to bring proof of eligibility to work in the UK with me - is this just normal procedure for the first face-to-face contact of NR's recruitment procedure for any job?

The interview itself is a separate part of the process, so it'd be unlikely to be carried out on the same day. I think my assessment was shown as a panel interview too, when there was nothing of the sort (just an HR bod administering the tests). Good luck, and make sure you've understood the exercise with the lifts .

Woohoo! Something I know about too!

Panel Assessment was super easy. I did it about a month ago.

And Tomnick is still right, there's no interview, just a series of tests as described. They're all easier than the pamphlet would have you believe.

The hardest one for me was picking out the lottery things at the end. There are about a 1000 items and you have to pick out about 8! It's insane.

Also, I thought the Speed/Distance/Time questions would be harder than the absurdly easy ones in the booklet, but they really, really aren't.

I'm had my interview for a signaller job last week (I find out on Friday), so don't hesitate to ask anything. Also Tomnick is a frickin' legend.

The biggest tip: Go to the box you're applying for.

I'm doing the best I can to get prepped, but it's the proper practice examples before each test itself that I'm really wanting to get stuck into - so I know what the tones sound like, shutters look like, etc. etc.

Can you remember how much time was allowed for practicing before each test proper began?

They give you as much time as you need, and repeated some of the samples many times for us. I really wouldn't worry at all.

I attended my Assessment Centre and found the tests to be a very mixed bag - some were easy (e.g. lottery numbers) and others hard (e.g. fault finding). The pre-test booklet made it clear what tests to expect on the day, but the example questions were often too simple or not representative of the actual test questions themselves to have allowed me to be best prepared.

Anyway, my application has gone no further so I presume I didn't pass (whether at all or at the required level). It looks like if I'm given the chance to try again in the future I'll have to practice the tests before at home somehow!

It took them waaay longer than a week to officially give my results. I badgered HR for about 3 days in a row, before someone was able to 'interpret the results' and tell me. I got official notice a couple of days later.

I think what I've learned from my experience and these forums, is that nothing is quick with NR.
