When I get asked about my favourite album/CD , my stock reply is "the one I am listening to at the moment". So it is this week is a compilation Steely Dan CD. I know that compilation albums are sometimes frowned upon but each to their own. I have a confession regarding this CD as I mentioned to a mate that it was not a very good selection of tunes , errr , I then noticed that it was a double CD . Maybe this should go in the You Know Your Getting Old thread. :lol:

Tchaikovsky - Symphony no 1 "Winter Daydreams" played by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Martyn Brabbins. This CD arrived yesterday as the cover disc with the BBC Music Magazine, just in time for the Winter Solstice.

Marillon Seasons End album:

The first outing of the new vocalist Steve Hogarth and full of promise too. Some of their best work is on this album. Things did go downhill from the next album on in my opinion though.

Easter 8-)
My favourite Steve Rothery solo, and there's plenty of fine ones to choose from.
Soaring, singing, then fading into the gorgeous 5/4 section. Magnificent.

Yep. It's one a handful of those songs that starts playing in my head whenever I'm somewhere atmospheric and laden with scenery. Pretty sure the video was at or near Giants Causeway?

I actually thought with Hogarth they might continue to grow in size and start knocking on Genesis door. Sadly their biggest days were already behind them.

There's a few other bands I listen to similar to Fish era or early Hogarth Marillon. IQ and Arena are remarkably similar in places. Also give Scottish prog rock band Comedy of Errors 'going for a song' a play. Could have come straight off of Fugazi or Script.

Thanks for Comedy... tip. Yes, rather similar. Me likely and will explore further. Quite Yes-y in places too.
I've heard late Arena and saw them on Double Vision tour. A friend described them as a cross between Marillion and Metallica!
