Nottingham Trip Tickets Advice

Hi, I was looking to do an EM Day Ranger in the coming weeks, but looking at my plan, its not worth buying the day ranger. Instead I was thinking of buying the MAN to NOT Off Peak Return, but this is only valid on the 0943 onwards frrom Manchester. After looking at the Routeing Guide, it seems that it is valid to Stoke, then across to Derby and Nottingham. Is it therefore possible to buy an Advance to Stoke, during peak time, and then pick up the 0932 towards Derby with the MAN to NOT return, as this train would be in off peak time?

This should be perfectly fine. I'm assuming you're using the Off-Peak Day Return from Manchester to Nottingham priced at £27.90?

The restriction code for this ticket is B3, which means that it cannot be used before 09.00. You are also permitted to break your outward journey (and your return one too).

So by starting at Stoke on Trent at 09.32, you are after 09.00 and you are using the break of journey rule. It doesn't really matter that you couldn't actually get to Stoke on Trent by 09.32 on a train, by leaving Manchester after 09.00, and are using an Advance ticket for that part of the journey; you could have decided to get a lift instead, and your ticket from MAN to NOT would still be valid from SOT.

Incidentally, it is tickets that have off-peak attributes, not trains.

As others have said, all of the above is fine. If you're doing it for a ride out rather than a specific trip to Nottingham then you can get another connection from Nottingham to one of the little stations outside like Bulwell, or probably Radcliffe for the same price, though check connections at these stations so you don't end up with a long time to kill there.
